What is fairer than fair trade chocolate?

Fairer than fair trade chocolate also known as raise trade.

The vast, vast majority of cocoa beans are not processed within the countries they are grown. Up to the point of processing, the cocoa bean is effectively a commodity.  Most of the value in the bean is realised after it is processed. Fair trade pays a slightly higher premium for the commodity, but again the countries who produce the beans lose out on the value thereafter. Raise trade beans are processed in the same country they are grown, thus leaving more of the beans' value in the local economy.  The majority of our range now uses raise trade beans from North West Madagascar.
